As many of you may know the Colchester Highland Games & Gathering Society had it's last meeting late 2019
Due to some of the major roles in the society and board positions remaining unfilled we had no option but
to dissolve the society.
Sad as this was for many of us who had worked hard over the last 4 years to bring this event to the Colchester area, many of the events that made up the whole will continue:-
Colchester Highland Dance, Several Nova Scotia Pipe Bands, Nova Scotia Heavyweights, Canada Games Wrestling (originally Sprawlers), Greene Irish Dance, Gallus Gael Living History, Truro Cadets and the
Nova Scotia Highlanders to name a few will all continue in their own right.
We would like to thank all of them for their support over the last few years and a HUGE thank you to all the volunteers and sponsors who helped bring them together and make the games happen.
WE DIDN'T LET THE STORM BLOW US AWAY!
On Friday, September 6th we hosted a special free event which took place at the Civic Square Truro from
6pm until 10pm
Events included
Tossing the Caber
Highland Dance Performance
Kids Races - Sack Race/Egg & Spoon Race
A record breaking chainsaw juggle by
Ian Stewart of Truro
Tug O War Competition
'Wife' Carrying Competition
Gallus Gael Historical Re-enactment
Craft Vendors
& a special performance by
Clann An Drumma
Hope you didn't miss it!
The COLCHESTER HIGHLAND GAMES & GATHERING was not only a
SPORTING EVENT (Heavyweights Maritime Championship, Wrestling, Tug O War & Athletics)
but also brought you
DANCE (Irish, Scottish Highland, Mik'maq & Ceilidh)
MUSIC (Pipe Bands, Live Music Stage with Internationally acclaimed artists & local Acts)
HISTORICAL RE-ENACTORS (18th century sword & muskets & modern warfare)
ARCHERY, FOOD TRUCKS, CRAFT FAIR, WORKSHOPS & Much, Much more...
Over the last three years our local community has worked hard and put on some amazing fundraising events in order to bring you the best
Highland Games & Gathering in the Maritimes.
We hope you didn't miss any of the action.
Chieftan O the Games
2019 marked the 75th anniversary of
The Battle of Normandy
in which Canada suffered a great loss of life.
We therefore felt it only fitting that we give this honour to
Lt Col Colin Todd
of
The Nova Scotia Highlanders
Chief Bob Gloade (2017/18 Chieftan-left) receiving a Plaque from Lt Col Colin Todd (right) at the 2018 games to commemorate the contribution of the Mi'kmaq in the Canadian Armed Forces.

We were sad to hear of the passing of Allison MacLeod who was one of our amazing volunteers with the Highland Dancers.
She will be greatly missed
Our thoughts are with Allison's family.
