The Colchester (Nova Scotia) Tartan was designed by
four members of the Colchester Highland Games & Gathering Society -
Linda Finnie, Barb Simms, Scott Whitelaw and James Finnie
in association with Deana Lloy .
It was woven by Lochcarron Mills in Scotland (see video below) & registered in Edinburgh, Scotland as the first official tartan of Colchester County
This made Colchester the proud producers of the very first and last officially registered Tartans in Canada on the day of the inaugural Games in 2017. (See reveal video below)
The first tartan of Canada was designed by Bessie Murray of Bible Hill in 1953 and became
Canada's first official tartan in 1956 - It was the Nova Scotia Tartan
The Dark Red Loamy Soil of Colchester County is the background colour of our tartan.
Crosswoven with the Green of the Land itself,
the Blue of our Rivers & Bay (Scots),
the Yellow Daffodil (Acadians)
& Black taken from the Mi'kmaw Medicine Wheel representing the North.
The Colours represent the land and the peoples who settled in this place we call Colchester.
